Bookstore Bucket List: Three Delaware Bookstores Worth Visiting

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

For Mother’s Day, my mom and I spent the day together in Delaware. The weather was great, we had some amazing food, and did some shopping.  Of course I had to stop at as many bookstores as possible, and we managed to get in three in one day!

Browseabout Books, Rehoboth Beach, DE

My family has vacationed in Rehoboth Beach for a few years, and this bookstore is a favorite stop. They have something for everyone, in books, toys, and gifts. The store is very large, and divided into two section. The books and children’s toys and activities are on one side of the store, and gift items and a little cafe are on the other. They have a great schedule of events and a fantastic list of authors scheduled to visit this summer. You can check that out and get more information about Browseabout Books on their website.

Unfortunately I did not have a camera with me for this visit, so forgive the quality of these cell phone photos. Here’s a glimpse at the book selection and displays at Browseabout Books.

Don’t spend all your money on books, because you are going to want to check out the gift selection too!

What did I buy?

Books, of course! I picked up a few books that I’ve been meaning to read, along with Anything is Possible, which I enjoyed so much that I wanted my on copy. I also bought a journal and a few gift items for a book exchange I’m doing this summer.

Bethany Beach Books, Bethany Beach, DE

The next stop on my Delaware bookstore tour was Bethany Beach Books, which is just a short drive away from Rehoboth. This is a beautiful store, inside and out. They have a fantastic children’s section, and a great sale room. The staff was super friendly there too and gave me a free totebag (you know how much I love totebags!). I like the way that a lot of their books are displayed with the covers out; it’s a small detail but it makes for such an enjoyable browsing experience. You can find out more information about Bethany Beach Books on their website.

What did I buy?

A couple of sale books, bookmarks, bookplates, and two adorable shopping bags!

Biblion Books, Lewes, DE

This little gem is a used bookstore and they also sell cards and small gift items. The store has a very cozy feel, and although it is small I thought it had a nice selection of books. More info about Biblion Books can be found on their Facebook page.

What did I buy?

Two gently used books – $5 each! I am going to start picking up Louise Penny’s mysteries when I find them on sale, and Still Life is the first one. I had previously checked out The Orphan Master’s Son from the library, but it was due back before I had a chance to read it, so now I have my own copy!

I love to visit independent bookstores when I’m traveling. If you don’t have an indie near you, here are some ways you can support them!

I’ve only been to a small area in Delaware – what other bookstores there should I put on my list to visit?
